The last Saturday of the month is reserved for an exciting cultural event titled Cultural Heritage of Topcider. This is a strategic cooperation between several cultural institutions, initiated in September 2017, within the Days of European Heritage event. The participants of the first tour were the Museum of African Art, the House of King Peter and the Legacy of Petar Lubarda. Since then, the event has been held regularly, along with private tours arranged on-demand.

Many other cultural institutions joined the project over time. Among them are the Archives of Yugoslavia, House of Olga Jancic, Public Aquarium and Tropicarium, Isidora Sekulic Memorial and Hyde Park. The synergy of these participants allowed for the Cultural Heritage of Topcider to become a real treasure trove of valuable sites and exhibits. The route includes private and public spaces that preserve a variety of historical, cultural, artistic, natural and collectible heritage.

Visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the architecture of the mentioned institutions, about the famous artists and founders of the Museum of African Art, about the activities of King Peter I Karadjordjevic and his son Alexander in this part of Belgrade. The cultural institutions participating in this unusual project are located in the immediate vicinity of the Museum of African Art. Art historians Ana Knezevic (MAU) and Ivana Zatezic (Legacy of Petar Lubarde) are in charge of organizing and guiding the tours.

The event has taken on an interactive form as visitors show great curiosity through questions and comments about local history and its dynamics, but also about modern times. The organizers are very pleased that the program, which started as a student idea, has become a regular event involving public cultural institutions and private endowments. The initiators of the project expect the program to be further developed and implemented.

Always keeping a friendly company, the exploration of Topcider’s cultural heritage becomes a lively experience, filled with cordial conversations and new sensations. The organizers also arrange “custom tours”, i.e. the possibility for visitors to personally choose the sites where they will experience important life moments, such as romantic rendezvous, team building, learning and practicing the Serbian language, high school or university class, sightseeing of the Topcider Venac, etc.
