Explore the natural attractions of Vojvodina

Vojvodina is known for its flat and vast fields, but it also hides many natural beauties waiting to be discovered. The province is located in the north of Serbia and includes a large part of the Pannonian Plain. Its nature is characterised by gentle hills and plains that are tens of kilometres in diameter. Although the terrain seems monotonous, there are many places in Vojvodina that are worth visiting, especially if you’re planning a romantic or family trip.

One of the biggest attractions of Vojvodina is Fruska Gora. This mountain hosts the highest regional peak (539m) and a national park with an area of 26,672 hectares. The park abounds in beautiful landscapes, rare plants and animals, complemented by rich history. There are over 17 monasteries on Fruska Gora, which date back to the Middle Ages. The monasteries are well preserved and represent a significant cultural heritage of Vojvodina. An outstanding destination for nature lovers who want to relax and enjoy peace, greenery and fresh air.

Lake Palic, one of the most popular in Vojvodina, is located near the town of Subotica. The lake has crystal clear water and optimum conditions for swimming and fishing. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and hotels on the shore, which is great for all-day relaxation and enjoyment. Lake Palic covers an area of about 4.6 square kilometers, and is surrounded by a beautiful park and landscaped beaches. In addition to swimming and sunbathing, you can opt for cycling or boating, as well as for various sports activities.

One of the most beautiful sites in Vojvodina is the Karadjordjevo special nature reserve. It is located in southwestern Backa, near the village of Mladenovo. With an area of over 10,000 hectares, it abounds in forests, lakes and pastures. There is also a local hunting lodge, where you can try traditional Serbian food and drinks. Another regional attraction is the Karadjordjevo stud horse farm, located not far from the town of Backa Palanka. It was founded back in 1885, and today operates as part of the Morovic military compound. Apart from the stud horse farm, the complex also has a horse racing track, museum and restaurant.

Deliblato Sands (Deliblatska peščara) is a unique desert located in the southeastern part of the region. It covers about 300 square kilometers and is considered one of the largest sand areas in Europe. The natural features and regional specifics make it suitable for recreation, hunting, fishing, nautical tourism, and above all ecology tours. It is interesting that most of the movie Ko to tamo peva and the sequences for Battle of Kosovo were filmed in these parts.

Located near the eponymous town, the Subotica Sands (Subotička peščara) is a favorite hiking spot. It stretches from the eastern shore of Kelebije Lake in the west to the Kires River in the east. The height of the sand dunes reaches 4-6 m. The best-preserved parts are under forest, while a smaller part is covered with plantation vineyards and orchards. Truly a great destination for adventurers and nature lovers who prefer bird watching and walks through vast spaces.

Slano Kopovo je specijalni rezervat prirode smešten u severnom delu Vojvodine. Nalazi se u blizini Novog Bečeja, tačnije severoistočno od ovog gradića i reke Tise. Ovo područje je bogato slanim jezerima i močvarama koje privlače brojne ptice selice. Sledeće mesto koje vredi posetiti je Carska bara, koja se nalazi na granici sa Rumunijom. Reč je o rezervatu prirode koji se prostire na preko 2000 hektara i obiluje ptičijim vrstama, uključujući one retke i ugrožene. Ovde možete videti i druge vrste životinja, kao što su divlje svinje, srne i lisice.

Najzad, posebna atrakcija Vojvodine su vinska područja, uključujući Fruškogorsko i Banatsko vinogorje.
